Mike Dring is a registered architect and Course Director of the undergraduate programme in architecture at Birmingham School of Architecture. He graduated from Manchester School of Architecture with a distinction and commendation in 2000, working for two prominent architectural practices prior to joining the University in 2007. During his time in full time practice he collaborated with a variety of creative individuals from urban designers to artists, on schemes ranging in scale from an urban extension to Reykjavík to beach huts on the Lincolnshire coast. His latest commission involved the preparation of a feasibility report for the design and fabrication of a relocatable ‘Sebilj’, a reinterpretation of a traditional Bosnian monument for the Bosnian Community Centre in Birmingham.
Within BIAD, Mike is involved in the Undergraduate Forum and the Extended Induction Working Group as well as promotional activities for the School and Faculty.
Mike is currently working with local photographer Stuart Whipps towards an exhibition on post-Herbert Manzoni era Birmingham. The research, funded by Birmingham City University, will draw on extensive archives held by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Birmingham and Five Counties Architectural Association (BFCAA).
