The exhibition, Messages, involves thirty artists from Birmingham, UK; New York, USA; Leipzig, Germany. The artists have utilised the postcard format to explore their own understanding of this mode of communication. By exchanging work between centres, the Lichtdruck Kunst Leipzig, the Lower East Side Printshop and the Birmingham Print Workshop have jointly created a portfolio of prints which were exhibited at:
Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Birmingham, England. 18th September - 5th December 1999
Kuppelhalle der Dresdner Bank, Leipzig, Germany. 9th November - 3rd December 1999
Goethe Institut, New York, USA. 15th December - 29th January 2000

"The desire to communicate cuts across distances. E-mail is the latest vehicle to make its impact on the workplace as well as the home. More traditional forms of communication, however, continue to hold their own, none more so than the postcard. This most intimate of popular mediums appears to fulfil some need that is being by-passed by the current technology. Small enough to hold in the hand, this combination of image and text has the capacity to make global connections while encapsulating a particular moment or personal message."
