Fashion Design and Regional Culture

This project centres on the interplay between the city-based Asian and other ethnic communities in the development of design-based products in clothing. The research set out to ask a number of questions including: What is the nature of design based entrepreneurial activity with specific urban environments? How does the city and the particular manufacturing activity contribute to this community? What are the key issues surrounding community based product development and ethnic origin?

The project collaborated with a wide range of agencies and other academics in migration studies, entrepreneurial studies and design including researchers in Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Paris and London. The project resulted in international publications.
