People are important here at BIAD. Staff at BAID recognise that art, design and culture are rapidly changing fields. We recognise that, by embracing and reflecting upon art and design in the expanded field, significant and productive contributions to knowledge can be made.
Our researchers (staff / students), practitioners and scholars examine new areas of practice and utilise creative trans-disciplinary approaches while at the same time relating and contributing to other fields such as the humanities, technological studies and enterprise culture.
Our researchers are concerned with the role of innovation and creativity relevant to contemporary design practices and the role of enterprise and consumption within the cultural and creative industries. This has led to pioneering research that examines the nature and scope of design disciplines and a fundamental reappraisal of the conceptual basis of current design practice, which in turn helps the development of emergent creative practices.
While a wide range of established forms of research are employed within BIAD, researchers are also committed to the development of new forms and models of research that emerge from a commitment to original practice as research, to the exploration of what it means to think of, and to produce art and design as research. The participation of researchers in near-market research and knowledge transfer projects and also the study of their impact have strengthened industrial collaborations and their consequent enrichment of the research centres.
We are proud of our people, and hope that if you join us, you will be proud to be a BIAD person too.
