About Global Color/Trends 2010
Innovative, exploratory, challenging, provocative are all words which we closely associate with our Trends project. Based on a long term partnership with UBM Live, Global Color ResearchTM and Mix Publications and international digital wall covering manufacturer Tektura, the project engages 120 students and 10 academics with considerable industry and research experience, to test the trends presented by Global Color ResearchTM and Mix Publications. The result is an exhibition featuring four pavilions which interpret the trends.
Our partnership with Global Color ResearchTM and Mix Publications has provided new inspiration to drive forward trends prediction and represents a significant change in the way we embed trends and design development into the curriculum for interior, product and textile design. It reflects the potential of international players to contribute significantly to education, whilst highlighting the benefits that education can return to industry.
Our tour in 2010, to Interiors Birmingham, ARC, Interiors Abu Dhabi, Decorex and Sleep, represents a significant opportunity for us to engage with the industry and showcase our interpretations of Global Color ResearchTM and Mix Publications Spring/Summer 2011 Trends which include:
Spirit: Steeped in folklore, Spirit is an homage to the coming of spring. Fresh nature, fresh colours, rustic textures and hand crafted objects, spirit is a return to our roots.

Whisper: A soft, smoky palette which draws inspiration from transparent and fluid elements of nature. In a world surrounded by concern and doubt, ‘Whisper' offers a dreamlike state to escape.

Genteel: Takes us on a journey through a traditional domestic setting where comfort is derived through familiar settings. With a largely neutral palette, drama is evoked through key highlights: carmine, scarlet and gold and a classic mood prevails.

Risk: Sci-fi meets low-fi. As the old decays and collapses, our post-industrial society embraces the beauty of dereliction, while melding it with the modern and futuristic. The result: toxic colour and science fiction references.
