BIAD Courses Undergraduate

BA (Hons) Art & Design

Within a contemporary art and design context, this BA course promotes the integration of theory and practice, and helps students to develop analytical, reflexive, and critical approaches to working within increasingly complex social and cultural situations. It is an experimental and innovative course that encourages hybrid approaches, actively reflecting the increasingly open nature of art and design practice in contemporary culture. It pays particular attention to the uses of sculpture and installation, photography, illustration, web design, digital video, sound, craft, and textiles, and encourages students to explore the interaction of art, design and technology.

Graduate Profile: Nita Walters

“My final year at Birmingham City University Bournville has been both a challenging and enlightening experience. My sights were originally set upon becoming an art teacher; however, the Professional Practice module opened up many other possibilities within teaching that I may not otherwise have pursued. I now enjoy working in the community as a freelance artist helping students with disabilities to realise their full potential. With this in mind I may go on to do further study, such as an MA in Art, Health & Well-being, at a later stage in my career development.”

Post Study

Many students continue as professional practitioners, working independently for in groups. Others combine this with further study both at MA level and PGCE (in preparation for teaching) level. Our graduates are equipped for a very rich and diverse range of careers because they are imaginative, independent and creative.
