This programme has two stages and takes advantage of the innovative artistic and interpretative programme of The New Art Gallery Walsall and the Ikon Galley alongside the academic excellence of the School of Art, Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, Birmingham City University.  The programme will enable teachers to re-engage with developments within contemporary Fine Art practice and theory at the highest level, to re-establish or reappraise their own art practice and reassess their approach to teaching with regard to both content and modes of delivery.

The Stage 1 Summer School & Stage 2 Saturday Schools offer artist teachers a stimulating, concentrated programme of studio practice, seminars and gallery visits in which to explore practice, ideas and influences within contemporary fine art which can form starting points for an integrated approach to their own practice and teaching.

Stages 1 & 2 are designed as one course but can be attended separately. Stage 1 will enable students to establish a basis for continuing practice. Stage 2 will provide ongoing support through workshops, lectures and seminars.

Students who are interested in further study at MA level should contact the course director for details of the range of available study options and requirements for entry to the following courses:
